Virginia is Proclaimed a Stroke Smart Commonwealth
Former Governor Ralph Northam endorsed Virginia becoming a 'Stroke Smart' commonwealth, kicking off impactful initiatives to educate everyone about the signs and symptoms of a stroke, and urging those who spot a stroke to call 911 immediately. A downloadable copy of Virginia's proclamation is available here. The Virginia Department of Health is an ardent ally in the aspiration to empower all who live, work, pray, and play in Virginia to recognize the signs of a stroke and to know to call 911 immediately upon spotting those signs. Virginia's efforts are spearheaded in part by the Northern Virginia EMS council funded through the CDC's Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke Program. The Council's objective, through prolific education and outreach, is to lead every city and county in Northern Virginia in becoming Stroke Smart.
